Review of the iPad Air 2

With the release of the new iPad Air 2, many are left asking the question “is it worth the upgrade?” Apple blew us away with the release of the original iPad Air, but surely they cannot produce something that much better its worth upgrading from the 1st gen to the 2nd gen?… or can they?

Lets have a look at what they have done with this year’s model of the iPad.

Design

The iPad Air 2 is one of the thinnest iPads on the market today, at a stunning 6.1mm. Even at this extreme thinness, the iPad air 2 feels extremely solid and very well built. The design on this device is flawless, although not much has changed in this category from the iPad Air 1. The main differences you will notice on this device is that it now comes with a “touch id” home button and also comes in either space grey or gold colors.

Features

aturesWith the new touch id feature comes Apple Pay. Although Apple Pay is not quite ready here in Canada, it is a new feature we can soon look forward too. The new iPad air comes loaded with the new A8X chip. This new chip means everything runs extremely fast and extremely smooth with the iPad Air 2. There also seems to be some improvement on the overall battery life of this new iPad.

The Screen

The new iPad Air 2 comes with an all new iPad screen. With a resolution of 1536 x 2048 this screen is really impressive.  The glass screen is actually fused with the LCD on the iPad Air 2. This makes for a sharper picture, deeper blacks and more vibrant colors. The downside of this new screen is the fact that these 2 parts can no longer be separated, making iPad screen repairs more expensive.

Conclusion

The iPad air does offer some great new features such as touch Id and a faster processor. Saying this, the iPad Air 2 isn’t much of an upgrade from the previous model, the iPad Air 1. If you still have an iPad 2 or 3, this would defiantly be a good time to upgrade. The overall feel and design of this device is incredible and really gives the feel of a high-end premium tablet.
