Replacing The “Touch ID” Home Button

Replacing The "Touch ID" Home Button

Since the release of the iPhone 5S, iPad Mini 3, & iPad Air 2 there has been a major upgrade to the home button and any model that has been released since. This upgrade is a finger print sensor called “Touch id”.

Touch ID is not an essential feature to use on the iPhone, in fact many people still use a password to unlock their device or no password at all. Touch ID is only essential if you want to use “Apple Pay” to pay for items with your phone at merchants that support “Apple Pay”.

If your home button has been damaged and/or needs to be replaced, it is possible for a repair shop to do this for you on the iPhone 5s, 6, 6+ 6s, 6s+ and the iPads. However, you will not be able to use the “touch id” feature of your iPhone or iPad. You will only be able to use it as a regular home button.

The ability to replace the home button and use it for everything but touch id, is not available on the new iPhone 7 & iPhone 7+. If you damage this button, you cannot replace it and use it as a home button. You will have to use “assistive touch” in the situation.
